A Timely Message of Faith, Perseverance & Overcoming
This is a thoughtful, richly allegorical novel that challenges and inspires its readers...
Highly recommended for those who appreciate allegorical fiction with spiritual depth and a strong message of hope… Penn’s writing is deeply rooted in biblical truth, with scriptural references woven seamlessly into the narrative.
The Song of the Overcomer offers a striking prophetic picture of the challenges facing the church today.
With humour, tenderness and courage, we are invited to examine the voices we follow and the faith we live. This is a story that calls us to deeper intimacy with Jesus, discernment rooted in Scripture, and the courage to overcome evil with love. Read it with the birds singing outside your window, I suspect you’ll listen a little differently afterwards.

A beautiful and timely book, The Song of the Overcomer is a gift to us all.
Like Hinds’ Feet on High Places, this moving allegory encourages us to persevere, trust God and become overcomers in challenging times. A book to treasure and share.

In beautifully crafted language – complemented by exquisite illustrations – ‘The Song of the Overcomer’ brings to vivid and dazzling life the world of birds, who in this book share our human strengths, frailties, and spiritual natures.
This book is both beautifully written and deeply felt. It brought tears to my eyes more than once but also made me laugh out loud a few times. A powerful and unique story which deserves to be read, reminding and warning us of our highest calling in Christ.

Unusual and imaginative Christian allegory, packed with scriptural references -
I particularly liked the section in Chapter 19 when Wagtail quotes Psalm 27 as he faces mortal danger. I also want to highlight the fine bird illustrations by Wendy Castano.

A very interesting book which takes the reader on an adventure, combining the beauty and creation of the British bird world and the walk of a Christian’s personal growth …
A book to encourage us in our walk with God and to help us guard our hearts from the enemy’s traps.

The book is especially moving as Robin walks through grief, temptation, failure, repentance, friendship, and spiritual warfare. Robin does not become an overcomer because he never falls. He becomes an overcomer because he continually returns to the Eagle, receives grace, and chooses obedience once again.
The Christian life can be compared to a young bird learning to fly. At first, the bird remains close to the nest, depending upon what others have taught it. Eventually, however, it must spread its own wings and trust the One who created it to fly.
Strong winds do not mean that the bird has been abandoned. Those winds strengthen its wings, develop its endurance, and carry it higher than it could ever rise on its own.
Our Christian walk is much the same. God does not promise that we will never face storms, but He does promise to remain with us through them.
Faith is not only demonstrated while we are safely resting in the nest. Faith is proven when the wind is against us, the sky grows dark, and we continue flying in the direction God has called us.
From an editorial perspective, this book is beautifully creative, emotionally powerful, and filled with meaningful spiritual application. The illustrations complement the story wonderfully, allowing readers to pause and connect more deeply with the characters and their experiences.
The ending is especially powerful and rewarding. It brings Robin’s suffering, perseverance, faithfulness, and final victory to a deeply moving conclusion.
The reader finishes the story with a renewed understanding that every hardship endured for Christ has eternal meaning and that the final victory belongs to the Lord.
The Song of the Overcomer is more than a story about birds. It is an urgent and inspiring call to the church to reject deception, remain close to Jesus Christ, walk in repentance, love the truth, and endure faithfully through every season.
This book carries a timely and necessary message: an overcomer is not someone who avoids hardship, but someone who continues to worship, trust, and obey Jesus Christ in the middle of it.
I believe The Song of the Overcomer will encourage believers, challenge hearts, strengthen faith, and remind readers that no matter how fierce the storm becomes, those who remain faithful to Jesus Christ will ultimately overcome.
Robin does not become an overcomer because he never falls. He becomes an overcomer because he continually returns to the Eagle, receives grace, and chooses obedience once again.
